making cents

(Har har.)

I’m selling the motorcycle.

You know, it’s really interesting how my emotions change when I know something I don’t want to do needs to get done. I usually lose a little sleep worrying, then I call my mom (then m, or the BG) for advice (validation), then put the decision into action.

Maybe I’m living up to the “adaptability” that the BG once said he loved me for having. Or maybe I’m just so focused on traveling the world that sacrificing something I love for a little while is worth the trouble. Or, perhaps I would just rather be debt-free than putting my life at risk for another day.

Since I have realized how happy the times with the BG can be, I’ve been more attentive to my personal well-being and mortality. Even as I write this, and know that I’ve been thinking of it for a few weeks now, I remember that he said the same thing to me yesterday without any idea of how I felt; a part of me is doing this so that I don’t run the risk of hurting myself on a motorcycle while we’re apart.

I guess going down on the bike scared me, as much as I don’t want to admit that. The few times I rode after that felt great, and really rewarding. I almost felt like getting past the hurdle of having an accident made me a better rider… more in tune, more relaxed. On the flipside, and before each ride, I have anxiety over it, instead of the excitement I used to feel.

I remember living in Virginia, commuting to work 10 miles one way, and being so excited about hopping on it each morning… I just don’t feel that right now. The joy of riding is no longer outweighing the financial stress that I feel to save as much money as possible by May of 2009.

So the ad is up, and I feel good about it. I’m actually pretty excited to have it be done with, as I’ll be on my way to saving all my money from that point on. Many people can’t say that, so I feel fortunate.

(The added benefit to all this is… I’m contributing much less, now, to this.)

I <3 you motorcycling... but for now I'm taking a break.

So yo. I swear I have too much to write and never enough time.

Yesterday on our day off the BG and I rode our motorcycles to Mt Hood and saw the Timberline Lodge. It was MUCH warmer than the last time we went. (Like… 50 degrees warmer.) On the road up Mt Hood to the lodge there were all these little butterflies everywhere. I hit probably eight of them and yellow guts were everywhere on my gear and helmet. Nice.

We also spent *zero* time planning for our upcoming trip to Seattle this weekend. We leave tomorrow, have nowhere to stay and little idea of what we’ll be doing. But we’ll figure it out! I could care less if we slept under a bridge, as long as we’re together. :)

Other things that are going on include me having a major revisit from heart palpitations. I was getting them a few years go, intermittently, but two Wednesdays ago I started having them non-stop, which is beginning to concern me. I went to the doctor Monday and (of course) had none while I was there. But I’ll be using the Holter monitor for 24 hours (I did this before but nothing really came of it) to see if there’s something wrong.

Really. Annoying.

Geico is ready to settle the claim with me and has decided to give me $750 for my pain and suffering.

We’re planning on seeing the Ashes to Ashes B-boy competition with some friends on the 21st, then partying with said friends the following weekend as well. :D

My dad is going to cancel his trip the weekend the BG and I will be visiting, which is awesome. (Though I feel bad that he has to do that… just a little, hehe.)

The kittens are getting bigger, but not enough to not be slowly killing us all, still.

Kitteh!

long weekend

The BG and I had a somewhat long weekend that started last Thursday. After work, we went and had dinner at Vegetarian House and then hopped over to Berbati’s to see The National. My legs and feet were killing me the whole show, but I had a great time; they were fantastic. (And it was the closest I’ve ever stood to a band and not had any sort of reaction. Wooo!)

Friday I had a half day so I brought him to work. M says it was “Bring Your BG To Work Day”. Indeed.

I picked up my motorcycle, which looks fantastic (I’ll post a pic later) and then we got ready for a movie night out… Ratatouille and Sicko. :) :) :) Beforehand we ate at Van Hahn, a vegan Vietnamese place on 82nd and Division, near the theater. Both movies were good, Sicko made me mad, really, just as all Michael Moore’s movies do. I think it might have led me to buy this book.

Saturday we nerded out for a while, then went to see Body Worlds at OMSI. It was really amazing, despite the very subtle nauseating feeling I had during the entire exhibition. (Dude, these were *real* people…) After the BG cooked us some awesome food and then mooching some other awesome food from the roommates, we went to the Back Stage and then over to Ararat with Serena and Mark (gooooo new friends!).

More nerding occurred on Sunday and eventually the BG made a kick ass pasta salad (I’m usually not a fan, but his was really good) and vegan chocolate raspberry scones (which were gone just hours later). I re-potted some of the plants he gave me and then we settled in downstairs for a movie (Happy Feet) with M and J. :)

This morning the BG slept in a teeny bit and then left for work. When I got up a couple hours later I found two notes.

Love Notes

It’s getting closer, I know. Yesterday was the start of July, and in one month (which lately has felt like one breath’s length), I will be gearing up for goodbyes. We’re both feeling it. Saying “I’m going to miss him” doesn’t even begin to explain how I feel.

But at least we have unlimited MMS messaging. :)

stress

I think my brain is taking a shit.

Does anyone else feel like a total retard when dealing with insurance companies? I feel like every step I make regarding this stupid accident I have to call three people and find out what I’m supposed to do.

The score right now goes like this… Basically $960 of the estimate for the repairs on the bike is going to the stock pipe. Unreal, right? After making a few calls I found out that I can basically put a nicer (cheaper) slip-on pipe (similar to what I had before on the ‘03) and pocket the difference which, in this case, will amount to something close to $500.

So I went into the shop today and looked through a catalog of slip-ons and chose the Yoshimura. (It was either the Yoshimura or the Two Brothers and the Yoshi was quieter.) The ‘03 SV had the same pipe in addition to the entire exhaust system plus the Power Commander. I could either do just the slip-on, or the pipe/exhaust/Power Commander combo. I would love go with the latter but it costs about $1,100 for the whole thing and I’m not looking to spend extra cash on this bike at the moment.

Yesterday I went to see a doctor about my knees and then was referred to an xray place this morning. I am, for some reason, paying out of pocket for the xrays because the stupid xray place won’t bill directly to Geico and I don’t have personal injury protection on the motorcycle policy. (I better get reimbursed.)

Lovely.

As far as work is concerned, today we launched the new site. Basically, 80% of the focus was the new store, which we’re still making updates to. The store will be the foundation for our other sites.

I am super happy with the functionality and look of the store. For the first e-commerce site I’ve done, (and one I’ve done mostly with CSS), I’m pretty freakin’ proud of it. The rest of the site, however, needs to be updated. I basically copied everything from the old site. So that’s what I’ll be working on now… integrating new, updated content into the static pages.

Sigh.

Frankly, I’ve had it this week. Between rental cars and doctor’s bills and telephone calls and working extra hours I’m looking forward to a long weekend.

The BG and I are planning to jet outta Oregon early Friday and head south to the redwoods in northern California.

Can’t waittt.

(But first, I’m going to see Hot Fuzz tonight with Jay. Yay!)

weekend and updates

A summary of the weekend:

Ordered more records. Went to eat Indian food with one of BG’s friends from college who happens to be on an internship here for a month. Met up with Theresa (who I haven’t seen in like 5 weeks!). Made the last bus home. Worked for nearly seven hours this weekend getting my CSS dropdown menus functioning properly for the new site at work. Went drinking with the roommates (including Holly and Sarah). Went to the west side to return crap at REI and get vegan donuts. Attempted to go to the Rose Festival (but refused to pay the $5 entrance fee). Ate an elephant ear at the Saturday Market. Purchased an overpriced, very weak sangria. Ate pizza. Watched more Long Way Round and slept a lot.

Updates on the accident:

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow to get my knees looked at. Geico has me set up with a rental car starting today for ten days. Over the weekend I was convinced that perhaps I should call a lawyer and see what more I can get out of the settlement for the accident (this really isn’t my style, but I *did* miss a day of work that I had to make up and I also was unable to do any freelance work that day… plus I’m really not happy about having just bought a brand new bike and having to get all these repairs to it…).

And… I’m excited about being able to ride again, so hopefully I wasn’t too traumatized. :)
